Microorganisms producers since 1994

Atens is a family business founded in 1994, born of a passion for research, and with the main objective of producing mycorrhiza for sustainable agriculture.

1994 – Collaboration with IRTA

The initial collaboration with a reference research center (IRTA de Cabrils) in 1994 established the knowledge bases for the formulation of products based on beneficial microorganisms.

2000 – Opening of the factory in Tarragona

In 1999, an ambitious project was started with the construction of a modern production plant located in Tarragona (Spain), 82 km south of Barcelona, an especially suitable area due to its rural environment and its excellent climate.

2001 – Launching of the first product based on mycorrhiza

After 7 years of research, the first product based on mycorrhiza under the brand AEGIS SYM was launched in 2001. It remains today as the highest quality inoculum available in the market.

2008 – Refoundation of Atens

In 2008, the company is acquired and re-founded by Veronica Cirino, current General Director, implementing a model of modernization of production processes and professionalization of personnel.

2008 – Launching of Condor, expanding the portfolio of Atens with Trichodermas

This year, Atens expanded its portfolio of microorganisms by including products based on Trichodermas, which reinforce the position of the company as experts in microorganisms for agriculture.

2014 – Launching of Asir, first product to mix mycorrhiza and trichoderma

In order to keep its positioning as leader in the category through research and innovation, Atens expand its portfolio including ASIR, a pioneer product based in a mix of microorganisms in an innovative tablet format.

2016 – Launching of Covenant, first product for seed treatment

Atens R+D team develops a new organic adhesive, allowing for first time to effectively apply spores of microorganisms to the seed surface. This formulation allows to introduce microorganisms-based products into the extensive and cereals agriculture market.
